William Blackledge Whitfield (1842-1862) of Jefferson County, FL, entered the University in 1859, became a member of the Dialectic Society, and joined the Confederate army in 1861. He was killed in 1862 at the Battle of Seven Pines. His BA degree was awarded posthumously in 1911.
